Recapping the 2018 Mad About Modern Home Tour - Sept 29th, 2018! I realize it has been a minute. Let's call this a #throwbackthursday post! We are on the committee that organizes the tour so that is always fun to see it all come together! We also had furniture in a few houses and staged some of our pieces in one of the homes. [Many hats!] 1 - A Y S C O U G H R O A D 2 - C A R M E L A C R E S D R I V E 3 - C L O I S T E R D R I V E 4 - L A N D A R C R V 5 - P E L H A M L A N E 6 - P E N D L E T O N A V E N U E 7 - S H A R O N H I L L S R O A D 8 - V A L E N C I A T E R R A C E These pictures are all from the Valenica Terrace house - they have pieces sprinkled throughout their house from us (their platform bed & dresser in the master bedroom are both teak with black details on them. Love how the black makes the refinished teak POP! The Broyhill credenza, Lane Boomerang coffee table, and Eames Style chair & ottoman - also some pieces in their dining room that aren't pictured)! This couple has great style ;) They actually stayed at their house during the tour and answered questions about their remodel and details in their home - I think people really enjoyed that! Pic 1 - the inside of the Land Arc was really cool with light wood & black accents. Jennifer Felts at Habitude Interiors styled the inside and it looked fab! I wish I was able to get more pictures but there were so many people inside trying to take a look around.
The other 3 pictures are from the Sharon Hills house. We worked with Nicole at Bella Abode Design to stage pieces in this house and it looked awesome! The home owner actually ended up buying all of the pieces that Nick & I staged for him. BONUS! We really had such a great time planning, preparing, and getting pieces ready for the tour homes! Such a busy time - we literally sold everything and had to kind of start from scratch with our inventory (just in case you checked our site and saw that everything said SOLD - we weren't slacking - just had to have a minute to catch up)! Nick and I are so thankful for all of our clients! We are always working to bring you new (old) refinished pieces - stay tuned for more greatness! - A

FIRST! Let us admire this beautiful Mid Century Modern home! This lovely abode now houses these newly refinished & upholstered clam chairs. . . Take a look at these before pictures! Our clients found them at a local antique mall and brought them to us for some love. SIDE NOTE - Whoever upholstered these before we got ahold of them needs to take SEVERAL seats. The foam, fabric, and welt were all wrapped around and stapled to the wood shell (GAHHHLEEE put the stapler down). So Nick had his work cut out for him to save these bad boys. A F T E R A L O T O F L O V E . . . While tearing them down we actually found the original tags (had been covered with black bottom) so that was super cool! The frames were fully taken apart for repair and refinish! Our clients chose a really cool fabric for them - (I LOVE when clients take a chance on fun patterns & colors)! The finished product looked so fantastic - doesn't it just make you happy that these chairs got new life?! While we were there at their house I had to snap some pictures of these Kofod Larsen chairs - Nick refinished these before Fos Restoration Co. was even a thought! Looking beautiful years later (that's quality y'all ;) )
Let us know if you need help with anything you've found at a local antique shop - we would love to help you give your pieces new life! - A Hey y'all! Hope you're doing well & stocking up on water if you're in Hurricane Florence's path EEK! Take a look at all sorts of good stuff that we have been working on. . . Such a great transformation on this walnut desk! It belonged to our client's grandpa & definitely needed some love! Look at that yummy honey color after Nick was done with it! Before & After on this pair of nightstands! This teak dining table was such a beauty! It was completely refinished (sanded in pic 1). I love the way the base came together without the leaves! This nightstand was refinished to match a headboard that was also purchased from us in their bedroom! It turned out so great! (The before picture is a little dark - it was a blonde-ish gross color) This Bassett chest was so charming! I love the pattern on the top drawer! I have made a few new fiber art pieces that are hanging in the store - fun additions to art in any home! Jack Cartwright for Founders nightstands are beautiful! Completely refinished with slate tops - these are really cool because they have a small top drawer inside the doors! Broyhill Forward 70 Dresser & Jack Cartwright for Founders Furniture Gentleman's Chest Sanded & finished Lane Acclaim side table
Set of 4 Danish Teak dining chairs - newly refinished with original upholstery! Come see us on a Sat 10-3 or make an appointment with me during the week! - A I hope everyone is having a fantastic week so far! Look what we've been doing... This danish teak chest of drawers looked a little underwhelming before we got a'hold of it. It had a plinth base & you could hardly see the wood grain. It got a full refinish, update to original handles, plinth base chopped off (plinth bases work on some pieces - this was not one of those pieces) & added new legs! The black and teak contrast is so good - love this look! This danish teak queen platform bed was completely refinished and is so beautiful! Lots of storage - the nightstands have drawers & there is a huge drawer at the end under the slats (where the mattress goes). We will be delivering the bed to it's new home soon and I will be sure to take pics to share! #1 is a progress pic - all of the finish is sanded off! This matching dresser and chest are so pretty! THE GRAIN Y'ALL... Both are going to their new homes this week (together yay)! HEY GOOD LOOKIN'! This walnut and chrome credenza is traveling all the way to Indiana to it's new home! The perfect reading chair - Combi Star Lounge Chair by Arnt Lande - our client picked their fabric and they chose very, very well! Look at that teak wood / fabric combo! The little lever on the side allows you to lean back and lock yourself into place for perfect lounging. Love a good bar cart - we had 2 recently with different looks. One was brass with tortoise glass & the other teak with black shelves. (pic #4 showroom) CHECK THIS OUT! This custom home belongs to some of our favorite customers - they have such great taste (as you can see from their amazing new Mid Century Modern inspired home)! This space in their home now houses a beautiful Broyhill Scupltra Credenza - one of the roughest pieces we have tackled. Pic #2 - BEFORE restoration - look at that thing! WHAT HAPPENED? It was painted white (I am assuming while someone was painting a room since it was obviously done with a roller and wall paint... NICE), missing corners of drawers, chunks (in other words - it appeared to have been dragged down the road behind a car +). We refinished the top & legs and repaired / lacquered the casing white again because they wanted a contrast to their wood accent wall. It looks STUNNING! Just a few more shots from their amazing home! They have just moved in and are getting pieces situated - but with just the furniture it already looks amazing! We love seeing pieces from our store / pieces we have refinished bring spaces together!
Hope you all have a good weekend! -A I'd like to share a few of our favorite projects from the last month or so . . . This set of 6 danish teak chairs was refinished to match our client's rosewood dining table. They were so stunning! The first picture is a before of a side & captain chair - they were kinda rough. Luckily our client had good reason to trust us! Nick refinished her rosewood table 3-ish years ago so she knew the magic he could work! The other 3 pics are the chairs in their new home! The fabric she picked for her seats looks so good with the wood and her walls! BEFORE REFINISH Jens Risom Credenza AFTER REFINISH Jen Risom Credenza (available for sale - click here for details) The showroom has been full of some really cool stuff recently! We are always working to find more pieces to restore! Lots more to come! OH and just in case you need a cool place to go eat / have a cocktail -
We recently visited Hello Sailor in Cornelius and we were not disappointed! The decor is ON POINT y'all! Total Mid Century Modern theme - even down to the dishes. The food was delicious, drinks were fantastic, and it's right on Lake Norman so you have a great view! Treat yo self! -A Hayyyy! Check out what we've been up to! This American of Martinsville dresser was fully refinished & the honey brown color was so yummy! Talk about a heavy piece! WOWZA! (Look at those white drawers inside - I LOVE little surprise details like that.) This set was delivered to it's new home right here in Huntersville! They pre-ordered it from our inventory and requested a 2-tone wood look. It looked stunning in their bedroom! BEFORE REFINISH Lane Acclaim Credenza AFTER REFINISH Lane Acclaim Credenza BEFORE REFINISH Drexel Profile Dining Table AFTER REFINISH Drexel Profile Dining Table This Rosewood Credenza with Tambour doors (by Dyrlund) went to it's new home and will be used under their mounted TV. HELLOOOO wood grain!! Showstopper! Both of these sets of dining chairs are made by Drexel! The Drexel Declaration chairs have a really cool inlay on the back & really simple modern lines. They got new orange upholstery for the seats! The Drexel Profile chairs are a little more funky with small pieces of wood making up the back. They got new ashe upholstery! This set is heading to SC to join a whole Drexel Profile dining set! (Hey fam!) This low walnut credenza was fully refinished and is available now! Love the wood grain on this one!
We are always looking for new mid century modern treasure - if you have a particular piece that you are looking for just let us know! -A Y'ALL! It has been too long since I wrote a blog post. We have been busy bees! I want to share some of my favorite pieces that we have been working on! These chairs were refinished & reupholstered! They were so beautiful - it was really difficult to pick just 4 pictures to share! A couple in Davidson, NC pre-ordered them from our inventory and chose their fabric (GOOD CHOICE)! The Drexel Declaration by Kipp Stewart table was another pre-order from our inventory & completely refinished - it's new home is in Virginia! This pair of side tables was completely refinished & I love their rich tone. The Adrian Pearsall ottoman was refinished & has it's original straps - it went to Cali! The drop-leaf Drexel Declaration by Kipp Stewart table was completely refinished! Side note - Can I just say - the wood grain on Drexel Declaration pieces is INSANE. Every piece is just the craziest piece of walnut veneer you have ever seen! Pic 1 & 2 - Before & After of a Paul McCobb desk we refinished for a client. He picked it up a while back and it was in really bad shape (as you can see). Nick put a lot of love into this one! Our client didn't want it to be a light maple color (naturally & originally it was a light colored desk) so it took a few extra steps to get this rich final color! It really was so beautiful & all of the furniture with it in the office is on point! Pic 3 & 4 - Before & After of a Drexel Biscayne dresser. I really fell in love with this dresser. I love the off-center drawers and it was like BUTTER after the refinish (to the touch - and I also just love butter so it's a good comparison). These are all pieces that left our showroom recently to go to new homes! The first - a Drexel Profile display cabinet with new legs that we added went to Virginia - this little guy was just so charming. I always love the display cabinets on legs (tapered wood legs & I love a good hairpin too)! The Burke Tulip table went to Charleston, SC - everyone needs a tulip table. ;) So perfect to put with any kind of chair! Pic 3 - say hello to one of the most stunning credenzas I've ever seen. The way the veneer runs on this John Stewart Janus Credenza is just beautiful and the refinish made it pop! Pic 4 - This Broyhill Emphasis credenza was refinished beautifully & traveled to it's new home in NY, NY! Broyhill Emphasis credenza + Vintage Afghan Runner This teak dresser (in progress - sanded pic 2) was pre-ordered and refinished with our customer's teak headboard. The bottom of their bed had panels upholstered in black vinyl so we thought it would look fabulous to lacquer the base of the dresser black to match! AND IT DID! Do you see how freaking good it looks!!?! We picked up a load of Drexel Declaration by Kipp Stewart pieces! We LOVE this line. Just so happened after we picked up that last load - we found ANOTHER CREDENZA! They were in the showroom for a day together before the first headed to it's new home in NY, NY! We were just amazed that we found 2 - much less 2 that were able to be photographed together. (#2 is still available if you need an amazing credenza - just sayin')! I was able to paint 2 pieces for a local client. He saw my art hanging in the showroom and asked if I took custom orders. UH YES! Bring it! He wanted it in the style of another painting I have done (that is in the showroom and available for sale on the accessories page) and told me the colors that he wanted me to use. I am really proud of these and the customer LOVED them! A few pictures of what the showroom has looked like! Pic 4 - this picture is from a delivery in Steele Creek (SW Charlotte). Their lighting was amazing and I love the fabric they picked for their dining chairs. It pops against the refinished wood perfectly! These pieces are available now! They are all beautiful - come by and take a look if you're local (open Sat 10-3 and by appt every other day) or give us a call with any questions! I hope everyone has a gorgeous weekend!
-A We have lacquered some really cool pieces recently! (The whole process is super similar to regular paint but gives you a flawless, HARD finish - perfect for furniture!) This bedroom furniture looks AMAZING! The client that we lacquered this bed frame and nightstand for had some other pieces refinished by us so she trusts us! Her daughter had a little bit of fun with some sharpies on these pieces in her bedroom when she was younger. They were covered by a few abstract drawings, her name, and a big elephant! She said gray sounded good and for me to pick the paint color - YES GIRL! Love artistic freedom! We did these a while back - I love the mixture of refinished wood & colored lacquer on both of these pieces! They went to different homes but have the same vibe going on (which is a rocking, fantastic vibe obviously...) The black desk is oak and was a little dated being all wood - the black lacquer really modernized it and gave it a fresh look! We added some chrome hardware and NEW PIECE? NO! NEW LIFE...SAME DESK! BOOM! The chest and mirror frame went to a newly remodeled mid century modern stunner in the Lansdowne neighborhood (in Charlotte). The chest was previously black and white but they wanted it to look fresh for their new space! The mirror frame was previously part of a tabletop that the owners loved and wanted to re-purpose it! Love a good re-purpose!! This pair of tables got a fresh coat of white lacquer with a bit of shine - they will be used as nightstands in our customer's guest bedroom! They look so fantastic! These pieces are available now!
The Bassett chest needed quite a few repairs so we decided to spray the casing with a crisp, bright white and refinish the drawers to let their natural walnut beauty show! The coffee table got a fresh coat of black lacquer and is a reproduction of a great Eames design. The look for less! Hope y'all have a great rest of your week! Let us know if you need furniture help - it's what we're here for ;) -A All of our clients - whether they are getting a piece refinished by us or buying a piece from our inventory - have a house that needs ART! My mom encouraged me to pick up a paint brush when I was really little - bought me canvases to practice on and I have loved it ever since! It is a great way for me to get my mind off of stress and create something beautiful at the same time. If you have been to our store you may have noticed the art on the walls - it's all by me! I have gotten a few requests for custom pieces and I LOVE that - so I have decided to add this to our offerings. The most recent one being 8x5 feet! YES sign me up! These skateboard pieces are some of my favorites that I have ever done! They were all skated / broken by our own Nick Fos years ago and I held onto them (or hoarded - ya know - whatever) until I got my inspiration! I believe art should be fun and affordable! Let's face it - we aren't Jay Z buying a Basquiat orig and while I LOVE and admire Basquiat - normal people don't want to spend an arm & a leg - or sell their first born child for some art that speaks to them. I love creating and I love when people appreciate my art - it's a really rewarding feeling that I can't quite describe! I have also been working on fiber art pieces - they are a great way to add a different texture to your walls! The dip dyed look is really cool! It adds a little contrast to the piece and they can be dipped in any color for a pop to your room! A wide piece would look great over a sofa or bed! (Totally up for custom orders on these too!) I have listed current offerings on our NEW & beautiful "Accessories" page! www.fosrestorationco.com/accessories
Let me know if you have any questions / ideas you want to talk about & have a great rest of your week! - A In honor of our 2 year wedding anniversary. . . I'm gonna share a little about our Vegas wedding 02/13/16! SO this is not a furniture related post - don't continue reading if you hate really fun stuff. We were planning a trip to Vegas with 4 of our closest friends & decided why not get married while we're there?! We were engaged and the thought of planning a big traditional wedding scared the crap out of me. After talking to our families about it and making sure they were good with it - it was a GO! When we got to Vegas we explored. . . We saw some really pretty stuff - I loved going through all the hotels and seeing the extravagant decor (I think everything was decorated for the Year of the Monkey while we were there). Chewy was walking around! We went on a really HUGE Ferris wheel (The High Roller) and saw the skyline, went to the "old Vegas strip", ate lots of good food - my favorite of which being the breakfast buffet at the MGM! The Marriage License Bureau was amazing - we were in and out SO FAST. I hired a photographer that I found online before the trip for the day of our wedding ceremony - he was SO nice. He drove us & our wedding party around for a few hours and we hit some really cool places for pictures - including the famous Las Vegas sign, Caesar's Palace, The Four Seasons, The Venetian, and more! The BEST part of all this - we find out after the fact that this photographer was totally sneaking us into everywhere. Apparently we weren't allowed to be a bunch of places that we were set up and posing in. He even parked in the back of a few places. We assumed it was more of a VIP thing - like he knew what he was doing - NO - he was sneaking. FANTASTIC. How cute! We probably weren't supposed to be posing at these spots either. . . LOVE IT! AND here we are! The actual wedding ceremony at Graceland Wedding Chapel. It was so fun and easy - I was walked down the aisle by The King, ELVIS (he was a really good Elvis too)! The ceremony was surprisingly serious which we really did appreciate - especially having it recorded and able to look back at. We went to eat a fancy dinner at In-N-Out right after since we don't have those on the east coast. Everyone was wondering what the heck was going on with us being there all dressed up. It was great - and delicious.
It was such a good time and we have so many great memories from the trip. We had a reception for family and close friends a little while after we got back from Vegas and it was great too - we got to celebrate 2 times! I can't believe it has been 2 years already. Here's to many more! -A |
